Notes
General:
BIRTH: Coulter, William J., 3 Jul 1936 newspaper clipping, unidentified, in Minisink Historical Society files, Port Jervis, NY;date and place of baptism and witness Geertruy Andriessen from Lorraine Luke, LORILUKE@prodigy.net, on her web site Ulster County New York Ancestors and Descendants, on RootsWeb, viewed 3 Sep 2001; she used Baptismal and Marriage Registers of the Old Dutch Church of Kingston, Ulster County, New York, for One Hundred and Fifty Years, trans. and ed. by Roswell Randall Hoes, Vol I & II pub. 1906, ISBN 1-55613-704-4.

MARRIAGE: Roswell Randall Hoes, BAPTISMAL AND MARRIAGE REGISTERS OF THE OLD DUTCH CHURCH OF KINGSTON, ULSTER COUNTY, NEW YORK 1660-1809; #39; Minisink Valley Historical Society, Port Jervis, NY; this is her marriage to Heindrick Claasen (Schoonover or Van Schoonhoven) in 1679, however, he is not listed as her husband here because both of them claim that the son born during their marriage, Nicholas, was born of another father, to whom Debora was not married.

CONFLICT: Debora Christoffels, of Kingston NY, m. Heindrick Claasen (1652-1715) of Nieu Jorck (New York) on 6 Jul 1679. Their son Nicholas was bap. 1 Feb 1685. This is the Nicholas who is our ancestor (see his notes for more information). In testimony in 1688 Hendrick referred to Nicholas as the recorded bastard child of Debora. Debora later made statements that Derrick Wooden Legg was the father of Nicholas. Current researchers, (Lorraine Luke's pages, see above), concluded that Derrick Wooden Legg is really Dirck Van Vliet, b. around 1651 in Utrecht, Netherlands. Dirck was the son of Adrian Gerritsen Van Vliet and perhaps wife Agatha Jans Spruyt, b. in Krickenbeck, Utrecht. Adrian came to the colonies on 13 Jun 1662 on the "Trouw". Dirck was a neighbor of Debora. He lost his leg at a New Year's celebration in 1678, accidentally shot off by Gysbert Krom, his brother-in-law. Dirck recovered by April 5th that year. Also, Dirck married Anna Andriesen in 1685 in Kingston. This is the year that Nicholas was born and that Debora and Hendrick went to court for divorce proceedings. Debora made reference to the fact that "Derrick" married someone else. Debora and Hendrick divorced around 1685. Hendrick married another woman in 1688--Debora married Peter Van Bommel (b. abt 1667 in New Amsterdam) around 1692 in Kingston, although this researcher hasn't found a record of their marriage.
The PAF3 software program has no way to note children who are illegitimate, as Nicholas was reported to be. The family and ancestors of Hendrick Klaasz Schoonhoven are not included as ancestors of this researcher or her cousins.

CHILDREN: The children of Debora Davids and Peter (Pieter Vanbone) Van Bommel, all b. in Ulster county NY, are: Margaret (Grietjen Wamboon) Van Bommel, b. 1693; Marcus (Wamboom) Van Bommel b. 1698; Christophel (Wanbomme) Van Bommel, b. 1698; Marretjen (Wamboom) Van Bommel, b. 1700; Elizabeth (Wamboom) Van Bommel b. 1701; Pieter Van Bommel b. 1704; Antje Van Bommel b. 1706; and Peter (Wamboom) Van Bommel b. 1710. These names and dates are from Lorraine Luke, see above.
