Notes
Death Notes:
A letter written by Mary's son stated her death occurred 29 Aug 1928, and he was the administrator to her estate and was sent 39 Oct 1928 from Red House, WV., and letter dated 8 Sep 1928 to U.S. Dept of the Interior, bureau of Pensions, signed by W.H. Harris, stating the last check should be his. The V. in her name was crossed out in the letter.
General:
Mary V. (Greathouse) Harris's son wrote to the state about the pension that she (Mary) was receiving when she passed away. He was trying to state that he was entitled to her last check. It proves her death date and place.
William Hallie Harris Mary's and Henry's last son I think he (Willam Hallie) lived with Mary after he came home from the war , I think he stayed with her to help her with the farm. I found him living with her in the 1920 census. Callie and her husband John Baker and 5 daughters lived with her also. Mary was 68 in 1920, so she needed Williams help. Henry J Harris passed away in 1919. Henry was disabled from the war so he couldn't do too much before he died. I've got a lot on him. He (Henry) was in bad shape after the war. When Henry died, Mary filed for widows pension and she put her full name on the application [Mary V Harris] but the people down at the pension office thought that she wasn't the same person that Henry filed as his wife, because when he filed her name, he didn't include her middle initial, so she had to write letter after letter to prove that she was the same woman that was married to him for years. They were just giving her a hard time, and didn't want to give her that money. 837
Marriage Notes (Henry J. Harris)
