Letter from Iris Lamons of West Plains, MO to Winona Hixson:
Greathouse-Logsdon-Criswell Families

The Robert Jordan Greathouse family of Wheeling, WV came to this country - West Plains, Missouri, Howell County in covered wagons in 1887, there being three children of the Greathouses (Viola, Clara Bell and Harry). In the wagon train were two Logston boys (James William Logsdon, who was married to Viola Greathouse, and Lewis Frank Logsdon, who married Clara Bell Greathouse). The Criswell boys (don't know how many or their first names) came along to help with the stock. Nothing else is known of them.

William and Viola lived here until 1899 then were divorced and William went back to VA, taking their son Jordon with him. Their daughter stayed here with her mother. Viola then married Mark Summers and lived here till 1944 when she was killed in a car accident. Frank and Clara Bell lived here for several years and in 1912 moved to Iola, Kansas with their youngest daughter Ruth, the two older daughters Goldie and Myrtle having married and stayed here. They took Grandma Greathouse 'Sarah Elizabeth' with them as Grandpa Greathouse had died here in 1911. There they all lived the rest of their lives.

Harry Greathouse had already moved to Iola as here is an item in the paper dated Feb. 3 1910 where they were here on a visit from Iola. Also in the cemetery record is just this one line which says Greathouse infant, son of Harry and Emma. He buried in the Lamons Evergreen Cemetery which is south of town 10 miles and I haven't got to do down there yet and don't know if we can find the graves or not to get name and dates off of it.

Frank and Clara Bell had another daughter born between Myrtle and Ruth, her name Ruby, buried here in the city, about 1 year old when she died. 16
Marriage Notes (Sarah Elizabeth Davis)
Robert Jordan Greathouse and Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Davis were first cousins. They share the same grandparents (i.e., Robert J. Davis and Elizabeth (Harris) Davis). Robert's mother was Mary Elizabeth (Davis) Greathouse, daughter of Robert J. Davis and Elizabeth (Harris) Davis. Lizzie's father was Elijah Davis, son of Robert J. Davis and Elizabeth (Harris) Davis.
