Samuel Tanner
Notes: Capt. William Parsons and Samuel Tanner were the first settlers in Warth's Bottom, they settled there in 1797, John Parsons son of William, was born in a hollow sycamore tree the same year that his father came to Warth's Bottom. By the age of 20 Samuel had moved to Greenbrier Co., WV. He enlisted in the Virginia Continental Line and received a pension. #R10389. He was in Harrison Co., VA by 1797. Around 1800 Samuel and his family moved to the Point Pleasant area in Mason Co., VA(WVA). In 1812 the family moved to Roane Co., WV. Their first home was under the cliff where Spencer High School now stands. Samuel married Sudna Elizabeth Carpenter, daughter of William Carpenter and Miss Pringle, on 5 Dec 1791 in , Harrison County, West Virginia. (Sudna Elizabeth Carpenter was born in , , Virginia.) |
