I'm excited! Maybe we'll get somewhere here. One of the Greathouse cousins found a newspaper article about Rufus's death. He had sold a "haystack" to a neighbor. A calf got into the stack and ate just a little of the hay. The neighbor accused Rufus of cheating him and attacked him with a knife. Rufus tried to tell the man that the calf belonged to an uncle of his. He cut him up so badly, that he
literally gutted him. Gay Greathouse finally got the man off her Daddy. They put him to bed, where he later died of his injuries. Aunt Thelma has now decided that Rufus's parents were Marion Greathouse and Rebecca Webb. She now thinks that Rufus was born in Calhoun Co. I have a 1900 soundex for W.V. I have been unable to find a Marion Greathouse on it. He may have already passed away.

I just wanted to let you guys know that Aunt Thelma had a really good day the other day, Bless her heart and remembered who Rufus Albert Greathouse's parents were.She said dad was Marion Greathouse and mom was Rebecca Webb. I don't know if this will help much. She now says Rufus was born in Calhoun Co. Of course, this is the third county she has picked, but I have faith, sooner or later, she will hit the right one! Rufus was murdered in Jan, 1918. Married Nancy Jane Lambert 23 Feb 1901, first child born in 1902.
She said that Marion had a brother named Orville. I have a 1910 Cabell Co. census film, includes Logan county. Have found nothing, so far. Also have a 1900 soundex for Greathouse, in West Virginia. Quite a few Greathouses, but not mine. I am trying to copy them down, to send to you.
