Elizabeth is solidly proven to be the daughter of Harmon and Mary Stull Greathouse in court records of Ohio County, W(VA) in 1779 when her father, Harmon Greathouse, represented her in a lawsuit against Richard Brown, Jr. Data on the descendants of Elizabeth Greathouse Brownlee have been researched and shared by Pat Thomas of Winona, MN and by David A. McCutchan of Monroeville, PA.

"We believe Elizabeth Greathouse was first married to a Mr. Munce/Munce/Muncey and on her second marriage in 1803 married Thomas Hamilton Brownlee. Basis for believing her surname was Greathouse" Brownlee Genealogy by John Templeton Brownlee, dated approx July 18, 1967 shows on page 5."
"We located a gravestone in the South Buffalo cemetery, two miles west of Washington which reads: "In memory of Elizabeth, consort of Thomas Brownlee, who departed this life Dec. 26, 1841 in the 70th year of her age" this would make her birth year 1770. We have a death date for Thomas's first wife and a marriage date of June 23, 1803 to Elizabeth. So she would have been about 33 on her second marriage. Their first child was born January 20,. 1805.

*Boyd Crumrine, "History of Washington County, Pennsylvania with Biographical Sketches of Many of Its Pioneers and Prominent Men" (Philadelphia: L. H. Leverts & Co., 1882).
Crumrine's History of Washington County mentions her and her two marriages. "James Brownlee and resides in Washington, her husband having died nine years ago. James Brownlee was left a widower, and married for his second wife Mr. Elizabeth Muncey. She was a daughter of Herman Greathouse, who, with his friends Holliday and Edgington, located very early just in the edge of West Virginia. Mrs. Brownlee remembered very well when the Virginia and Pennsylvania State line was surveyed. By this second marriage of James Brownlee there were four children, on son and three daughters. The son, William J. Brownlee, emigrated to Missouri, where some of his descendants now reside. Others of his family are in Steubenville, Ohio. Elizabeth Brownlee became Mrs. Henry Bruce, and resides on the National road near Claysville. Susan married Richard McClelland, and her descendants live in Franklin township. Rachel Brownlee married Dr. George Davidson, of West Alexander. "
