Notes
General:
An article appearing in the 1958 Centennial edition of the Quanah
Tribune-Chief by Mrs. Early Greathouse, formerly of Quanah, now in Dallas.
"I am a pioneer of Hardeman County and Quanah since I lived in Quanah over
50 years before I moved to Dallas. Early and I were married in Clarksville,
TX 6 Dec 1897. When we moved to Quanah there was no city water. We had to
draw water from a 80-foot well. There was no bakery so everyone had to make
their own bread. It was necessary to buy milk and butter from a neighbor
who had a cow, if you did not have one--which we didn't. Later, relatives
from Bowie sent us a cow and we then had plenty of milk and butter." Mr.
Greathouse died over 25 years ago. Mrs. Greathouse still lives in Dallas at
a rest home. The couple had two children, Bobby and Hester, Bobby Married
Margaret Reed, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. RS Reed of Quanah and they have two
children, Early Reed Greathouse and Judy. Hester Greathouse married Oma
Lewis and they live in Dallas where they have an electric company. The
couple has one daughter.
Early F GREATHOUSE appeared on 1900-1930 TX census living in Quanah
Hardemon Co, TX all those years if I remember rightly. Joan
