George Witter, Pat's Grandfather, shot and killed Jesse then shot himself. The five children were divided among relatives. We did not know this until about ten years ago. Details we got last summer was in German. Giddings was settled by Germans. Jesse owned a "New Drummers Hotel" in Lexington.
