bullet  Notes:

After marriage, he and Ida went to Renfro, Oklahoma. They homesteaded a farm, at the time of the "Sooner Run" about 4 miles west of Renfrom and 1/2mile north. They lived in a sod house. In about 1980, Roy L. White and Melvin J. White visited the farm after finding the records at the Medford, Oklahoma courthouse. Roy made the observation that it was not very good farm land. According to a farmer living 1 mile north of the homestead, his father also homesteaded their place. His father told him that at the time of the Oklahoma Run, when the farms were homesteaded, that the bluestem grass was 6 feet tall and the quality of the land was not easily determined, even on horseback. The land was of red dirt and the water was salty.

In 1899 they moved to Wellington, Kansas, where Jay was a brakeman on the Rock Island Railroad. In 1903, they moved to Anson where Jay managed the lumber yard for Jesse Anderson Seitz. In 1904, they moved to a farm near Riverdale, then moved to Wellington, September 6, 1920. Jay worked there in the Sante Fe Railroad Shops. He died in the Santa Fe Hospital in Topeka, Kansas
