• He signed a will in 1842 in Mill Shoals, White County, Illinois. 559 Source: Penny Knapp - Synopis of John Newby's will - He stipulated that his sons stay with their mother until they were 21 to help raise their sisters. If they should leave before the age 21, they would forfiet 40 dollars a year for every year that they left early and that money would be divided between the other heirs. His wife Rebecca was to have full rein to his estate to do as she saw fit during her life time in order to raise his children. If she was to marry again - the estate was to be sold and she would receive a childs share. John died the following year after he made out this will.
