After the death of his mother, Mary Ellen, in 1877, and the Greathouse
family's subsequent migration to Kansas, Missouri, and back to Illinois
in 1878, James William eventually was placed with J. Clark, on 10, Sept,
1878. On July 5, 1880, James William moved back to his grandfather James
Low farm and worked for him during the summers until 1886.
