Source 1878-05 Work Group: Abraham shows up in the 1850 Census age 17 in the household of Harmon Greathouse . There is no male child listed in the Harmon Greathouse household in the 1840 census, when Abraham would have been age 7. Also, he is listed last in the 1850 census, and children are usually listed in descending age order. Harmon, however, is cited as age 46 in the 1850 census and may have had older children not listed in this census or in the 1840 census.
Further Notes: Children are not always listed in descending order, especially with older sons.
Some speculation: Abraham could have moved on or died before the 1860 census. He could possibly be Harmon's brother or his son. It is also possible that Abraham's gender was copied wrong in the 1840 census or that he was simply not listed by the census taker or that he was living or visiting with a relative when the 1840 census was taken. He remains a questin mark for now.
