General:
Charles Hayward was born by the given name of John Gilbert son of Buelah Gilbert (father unknown) on 1-24-1930 and was adopted as an infant by Harry "Hap" Hayward and Ruby Kennedy Hayward joining an adopted four year old sister, Shirley.
He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1947. He joined the US Army in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1950. He was in the USAF Reserve from 1951 to 1954. While working for Ford Motor Company, in Claycomo Missouri, he met and married Marilyn Greathouse in April 1954. He attended UMKC and graduated with honors in 1958.
He worked as a Systems Analyst for Systems Development Corporation in Santa Monica, California until 1978. During SDC employment years he had assignments in Santa Monica, Omaha Nebraska, Pentagon D.C., Tallahassee and Raleigh North Carolina.
He became owner of a marine supply store in Largo, Florida in 1978 until he retired in 1985.
He had 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren when he died of complications from heart surgery in March 2000 at age 70. Following cremation, his ashes were scattered in the Gulf of Mexico.
Hobbies included flying, boating, scuba diving, reading, bridge and tennis. He earned his small plane pilot's license, as well as a U.S. Coast Guard license to captain a vessel for hire.
