William Richmond lost an eye in a farming accident in 1895. The experience left him emotionally unstable for about six months. He was committed to the State Mental Hospital in Ossowatomie, KS, after a court hearing; and his father was appointed guardian. He was certified as being "in good condition" in May, 1896 and released from the hospital. He was treated by Dr. William J. Gillett father of Eva Gillett who married Frank Richmond, brother of William. 2
