George commanded Co. D, 13th WV Omfamtru Rego,emt. GAR. He served from Aug 8th, 1862 until June of 1865. His unit was at Lynchburg, the two Winchesters, Fisher's Hill, and Cedar Creek. This unit was a part of General Sheridan's Army of the Potomac.
George was noted in the book "History of the Kanawha Valley" his farm was in Union District of Mason County.
George married Margaret Hurshman on 4 Jul 1855 in , Jackson, West Virginia. (Margaret Hurshman was born in 1835 and died on 10 Mar 1888.)
