John Mims was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, serving as a messenger to the Eufaula Baptist Association, Barbour County, in 1914 (History of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, p.13). J. J. Mims and James "Freemon" Strickland built the current church building at Bethsaida Church in the 1920s that replaced the old log church located at the North end of the Cemetery.
