Nile Kempton Greathouse ¹

  Notes:

Nile enjoyed farming/ranching and his animals, especially Herford and Terintaise cattle. He was active with his children in 4-H. He belonged to the American Legion and the U.S. Air Force Association. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where we he was involved with the Boy Scouts, Young Men, and Sunday School. In his later years, he enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, keeping up on current events, gardening, and spending time with his family.

  Burial Notes:

Funeral services were held Friday, October 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 501 Winter Creek Drive, Scottsbluff, with Bishop Jared Palmer officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering with military honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard.

Nile enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, as Tech. Sergent on April 6, 1943 and was assigned with the 8th Air Force 381st bomb group as a top turret gunner and aerial engineer on a B-17 bomber. He was stationed in England; he flew 35 missions over Germany. Nile received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Oak Leaf Cluster Air Medal, and European Theater of Operation Ribbon with Four Bronze Service Stars. He was honorably discharge October 21, 1945. ²
