• His obituary was published in the Thomas Walter Greathouse on 27 Sep 1955 in Wellington, Sumner County, Kansas. Thomas Walter Greathouse was born near Bowling Green, Kentucky October 28, 1877 and came with his parents to Kansas in October 1883 when 6 years old, locating on the farm 3 miles southeast of Anson where he resided 69 years. Mr. Greathouse was united in marriage to Mabel Withrow, December 28, 1910. He was a member of the Anson Methodist church since young manhood and was faithful in its work as long as his health permitted. When they moved to Wellington in August 1952, he fransferred his membership to the First Methodist church there. He was a lover of children and having none of his own was devoted to his nieces, nephews, and their children, and neighbor's children; all affectionately called him Uncle Walter. His pleasant smile and cheery words will long be remembered by all who knew him.
Mr. Greathouse suffered a heart attack in October 1946 from which he never fully recovered, gradually growing weaker until he entered St. Luke's hospital Sept. 24, 1955 and passed away Sept. 27, 1955.
Those of his immediate family remaining are his wife, Mabel, one brother, Neal of Wellington, one niece, Mrs. Harold Magnus (Melva Greathouse), Port Arthur, Texas; two nephews Zanoni Freeman, Seattle, Washington, and Lee Freeman, Port Angelus, Washington.
Casket bearers were nephews of Mrs. Greathouse: Dale Cramer, Bob Withrow, George Farley, Herbert Landes, Don Rose, all of Wellington, and Lloyd Bradshaw, Wichita. Interment at Austin Cemetery.
