She passed away Saturday , July 13, 2002 in the Stoneybrook Retirement Community, Manhattan at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 16 days.
She Grew Up in Bancroft and Holton, KS and attended local schools.
She was united in marriage to Herman B. Magnus on August 31, 1921 at Holton , KS He preceeded her in death in September 1945.
Mr and Mrs Magnus spent their young married years in Denver , CO and Ardmore, , OK, where Mr. Magnus worked for the railroad. The called Arkansas City, KS home for several years before moving to Manhattan in August 1936.
Mrs. Magnus worked as cashier for several local businesses. She was a member of the First United Metodist Church and a 53-year member of Manhattan Chapter No. 209, OES. Shewas a former member of the Business and professional Women. She was an avid gardner and loved her roses, iris, peonies, cannas and geraniums. She loved to travel, taking many trips over the years, including a trip to England at the age of 80.
In attition to her husband, mrs. magnus was preceded in death by a son, Herman B. Magnus , Jr. in February 1926; a daughter Alverda Lynch in January 1992, her parents; and one sister , Mabel Warner.
Survivors include a daughter, Norma Benton, and her husband , Duane, Powell OH: four grandchildren, Alen, Paul, and Rachel Benton, and Michael Moore; four great-grandchildren, Stuart, Gary, and Grace Benton and Lindsey Moore; nieces; nephews, and these cousins, Elsie Plankenton, Colorado Springs CO, Wanda, Kathy and David Coleman, Manhattan and Donnie Curtis and Sherry Wilson, both of Wamego.
