Frances J. Greathouse Shelby - daughter of William and Mary Greathouse, was born in Richland county, Aug 25, 1843. She was married to Ira C. Shelby Dec. 24, 1871, to this union were born six children, one son and five daughters, all but one survive her. She united with the Christian church at Harlon about 25 years ago and has since lived a devoted christian life.,after two and one-half years of illness and patient suffering she quietly fell asleep in Jesus at her home in West Salem, Monday night, Dec. 13, 1909, at 9:45 o'clock, age 66 years, 8 months and 18 days. she leaves to mourn her death one son, four daughters, two brothers, one sister with many other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at he Marion church, the same being conducted by Rev.. J. C. Couch of this city.
