Notes
General:
Source: June Sarte, a descendant. Alonzo is on the 1840 Wayne County, IL census (one male 20-3-, one female 15-20.) Land transactions for Alonzo are found in Wayne and White Counties, IL, in this time period as well.
A marriage record for an Alonzo Patten and a Pencelle Gamblin is found in Hamilton Co., IL (a neighboring county) dated 13 Mar 1840. I am reasonably sure this is my Alonzo as the name Potter is misspelled or misinterpreted as Patten in other family records. I believe that the wife Pencelle Gamblin is the daughter of William Gamblin and Marion Greathouse. In 1850 this family appear on the census of Ripley Co., MO and are neighbors of William, David and Eliza Gamblin. Alonzo will mary Eliza Gamblin in 1853 after the death of Pencelle, also in 1853.
Source: Lou Allen has "First found in 1860 Census of Polk Township, St. Clair Co., MO wife then was Martha Jane Deshazo Devin.
