General:
Ivory Alonzo Greathouse was born on June 9, 1897 to Artie Wallace and Thomas Greathouse and was the older of two children. The other child, Ivory's sister, was named Marvel. She died in her late teens as the result of an accident. Ivory was born in Rockville, Missouri, but lived most of his younger years in Kansas City, Kansas.

Ivory served his country in the U.S. Army during World War I, and was in action in France. He was "gassed" which probably affected his health in later years. In 1920, Ivory was married to Mabel Bristow Cordner and seven children were born to this union.

Ivory had an inquiring mind with an interest in electronics - so he literally taught himself the radio and refrigeration repair business. He opened his own business in Kansas City, Missouri, under the name of ACE Radio and Refrigeration, which became very successful. He owned the first television set to be sold in Kansas City, which operated on radio waves. He then became known as Ace to his friends and acquaintances.

However, during this period of his life, he was lured away from his family responsibilities by his secretary, Katherine Anderson, whom he eventually married, after divorcing Mabel, in about 1936 or 1937. Katherine preceded him in death.

Ivory died of respiratory problems in 1979 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was buried with a military funeral at the Fort Leavenworh Veteran's Cemetery, in Leavenworth, Kansas.
