NAME: According to Lentz, above, Marritje Hansen is the same as Maria Jansen, and was the daughter of Hans Jansen. There were a lot of Jansens in the area at that time, and Lentz said that those with the patronymic of "Hansen" are presumed to be related to Hans as children.
BIOGRAPHY: Hans worked as interpreter in land deals with the Indians, and he seems to have made trips to Holland and back. Either he or Hans Jr. owned a mill at one time. Simon Hansen, probably Maria's brother, was at the baptism of her son Simon Westfall.
Maria was young when her mother died, and in 1645 her father placed her in the home of Phillip Garretson to be taught household duties.
