Notes
General:
Lars Anderson, was one of many children born to his parents. As a young man, Lars was on the area soccer team and he was employed by a steel fabrications plant. During his early married life to Gerday, they heard that "money grew on trees" in the United States and they decided that they and their young 3 year old son would migrate to the United States. This was a very bold and brave move considering that they knew no English and had no particular skills. They did know that they had some distant relatives in Chicago and in Kansas City - so they set out for "Eutopia". They sailed third class on a ship bound for America.

What a welcome sight was the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, their first glimpse of their new world.

They took a train to Chicago and located their relatives there and stayed with them for a few weeks while Lars looked for a job.

Finding nothing there, they contacted the relative in Kansas City and wer encouraged to come to Kansas City for work. Lars got a job in Kansas City as a laborer for Swenson Construction Company and he worked there until he retired. Gerda also found work in a "dime store", and taking care of children of some Kansas City families of considerable means.

By the time son, Gunnar, was old enough to go to school he had learned to speak the English language well, having learned to speak from other children. Actually, it was he who helped his parents learn to speak English. They eventually became American citizens. 114
