NOTE: Marriage Register (Inv. 418 a), archives, Naarden, Netherlands. Neither he nor his bride had been previously married.

BIRTH: Naarden is on the south shore of the Zuider Zee, about 15 miles east of Amsterdam.

COMMENTS: Anne Willis mentions a theory that the original Quicks may have been Scots sent by Queen Elizabeth I to help the Dutch. Scots were often mercenary soldiers. Quicks may have been some of these soldiers garrisoned in the Netherlands.

NAME: First name also Teunis, middle name Thomaszen. He sometimes called himself Theunis Thomaszen Quick de Matzelaer Van Naarden, or the mason from Naarden. Last name also Cuyck, Kwik, Cuik, Cuick, Kuik, Kuyk, etc. There was no "Q" in the Dutch alphabet, according to A.C. Quick.

BIOGRAPHY; According to Mrs. Willis' notes, he was a stonemason and probably helped build Trinity Church. He built and sold houses. Was granted Small Burgher rights at Niew Amsterdam on 14 Apr 1657.

According to Arthur Craig Quick, A GENEALOGY OF THE QUICK FAMILY IN AMERICA; 1625-1942; South Haven and Palisades Park, MI, privately pub; p. 8; Port Jervis Historical Society Library, NY. CHR: New Amsterdam Dutch Church, Theunis was a dealer in real estate. He took the oath of allegiance on 22-26 Oct 1664 at NY. He was living on the Beaver Graft in 1666.

COMMENTS: In 1698 he swore allegiance to King William in Westchester Towne.
