• Military: 1 Oct 1862, Kirksville, Adair, MO. 681 He served as a private from Oct 1, 1862 until Mar 31, 1863 (181 days service) in the 50th Regiment Enrolled Mo. Militia.
• Military: 1 Apr 1863, Kirksville, Adair, MO. 682 He served as a private from April 1, 1863 through October 28, 1863 in the 2nd Provisional Regiment Enrolled MO Militia. He was enrolled from the 50th Regiment Enrolled Missouri Militia by Gen. Bartholow. He served under Lt. Col. Wm. P. Harrison. Thomas's wife filed for pension for Thomas, but never received it. The military records were never sent to Washington D.C., so her pension request was denied.
• He was involved in a court case about an incident involving defendants Henry E. Greathouse and James Greathouse on 15 Feb 1866 in , Macon, MO. 722 James and Henry were accused of stealing 8 hams. They were caught and charged with grand larceny. Henry puts up his land for bail ($100.00 for each man). They never show up in court again. Saltmarsh gets case continued until 1868, when the judge orders the land sold. Sometime between posting bail and 1 Jan 1867 the leave Macon County, Missouri, and Clarinda buys land in St.Clair Co., Mo on 1 Jan 1867. Thomas Schoonover received a subpoena to testify in this case.
