Source: Susan DeHart furnished copy of letter from Tom Hutzelman, dated 25 Aug 1984. 3226 Rustic Lane, Erie, PA, to Mary Greathouse and several other Greathouse reasearchers and said among other things "..visited the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Germantown. They have most of the Philadelphia area Lutheran church records on micofilm. I checked the St. Michael's records with some interesting results: Jack Greathouse says that Wilhelm Greathouse's first wife was Anna Maria Puff, who was mother of Wilhelm Greathouse, Junior. But the Baptismal record says that the child was born out of wedlock! The mother's name was Anna Maria Puffin (feminine ending -IN). The only reason the record gives her maiden name is that she wasn't married, so it was her only name. Maiden names were not given on the other records on the surrounding pages. Thus I believe that Barbara was Wilhelm's only wife!" A note in the margin of the letter stated that this letter is in review of Jack Murray Greathouse's work.
It is believed that Anna Maria Puff died as the result of complications of childbirth.
Source: Susan DeHart has copy of 'The Greathouse Family of Indiana' by Dorothy M. Dawson & James E. Murlock. "Pennsylvania German Pilgrims". This book cites land holdings in Germantown, (Springfield and others) of Herman Groethausen and his sons Henry and Johann. Included is reference to Vol XXII p. l3 Bedford County, 1773, Brothers Valley Twp. William Greathouse, 200 acres. Also listed, John Greathouse 100 acres. In margin is the notation that this is our William (hand written). Another notation on the next page "our William of Harrison County, WV" in margin of this paragraph. This paragraph cites the Church records of St Michael's Lutheran Church, Germantown, Philadelphia, PA. William (Wilhelm) owned 500 acres of land on Zack's Run, located at Peel Tree in Harrison Co.,WV, which is located south of Clarksburg, past Quiet Dell and closer to Barbour Co., WV.
