Notes: Kathy Berigan writes: "From Revolutionary Patriots of Frederick Co., Md. 1775-1783 by Peden: "Wood, John, Ensign in the l37th Battalion of militia on April 27, 1779, Soldier in the Maryland Line who "was born November 20, 1754, in Frederick Co., MD, and lived there until the spring of 1783 when he moved to Berkeley Co., VA for 10 years. He returned to Frederick Co. for 2 years and then moved to Lexington, KY for 3 years and then moved to Warren Co., Ky for 14 years. In 1809 he moved to Wabash Co., IL where he applied for a pension on Dec 3, 1832. His son John Wood, signed power of attorney on June 7, 1851, in Wabash Co., stating his father, John Wood Sr., had served as an ensign and died on November 11 or 14, 1832 in Wabash Co.,IL. Soldiers widow applied for a pension (W2311) on April 21, 1853 in Edwards Co., IL and was still living there in 1868. Soldier had married Rachel Greathouse Bratton, the widow of James Bratton on Feb. 7 1824, as stated by the widow or Jan 27, 1824, as shown in the Edwards Co. records. Soldier's widow had first married to James Bratton on June ll, 1805 in Warren Co., KY and he (James) later served in the War of 1812, On his return from this service he died on April 6, 1815 in Fort Deposit, TN. I wonder if this Rachel is the same as Rachel daughter of Enoch." Rachel married James Bratton on 28 Jun 1805 in , Warren County, Kentucky. (James Bratton was born in , , Tennessee and died on 6 Apr 1815 in Ft. Deposit, , Tennessee.) Items of interest in their marriage were: • Marriage Fact: Bond Given June 28, 1805, 11 Jun 1805. (John Wood Sr was born on 27 Nov 1754 in , Frederick County, Maryland, died on 11 Nov 1832 in Friendsville, Wabash County, Illinois and was buried in Mt Carmel -Old Wood Cemetery, , Illinois.) |
