CEDAR VALE - Earl Eugene Magnus, 70, of Cedar Vale, died June 8, 1997, at his home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Cedar Vale First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Vale Cemetery. Wheeler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the Cedar Vale Emergency Medical Service.
Magnus was born June 3, 1927, in Arkansas City, a son of Earl and Bertha (Vaughn) Magnus. He graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1945 and served with the U.S. Navy.
On May 29, 1947, he married Maxine Duncan in Independence.
Magnus worked as a farm and ranchhand for Rolland and Mary Holland, the Haden Ranch, the Hays Ranch and the Frank White Dairy, all in the Cedar Vale area, and as a bus driver for USD 285.
He was a member of the Cedar Vale First Baptist Church where he had served as a trustee, deacon and head usher. He was also commander of Kemp-Barnes Post 201 of the American Legion and a member of Spencer-Ralston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1254, Arkansas City. He had been chairman of the executive board of the Chautauqua County Extension Council and a leader of the Cedar Vale Go-Getters 4-H.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Magnus, Cedar Vale; a son, Randy Magnus, Ponca City, Okla.; two daughters, Ragena Dobney, Chinle, Ariz., and Marcia Magnus, Cedar Vale; two brothers, Ernest Magnus, Arkansas City, and Gerald Magnus, Cedar Vale; a sister, Velda Hatcher, Arkansas City; three grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, one great-grandson; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Honorary casket bearers were Eldon Nelson, Oscar Hull, Paul Fulsom, Roy McNown, Chet Hobart, Mark Johnson, Harrison McNown, Joel M. Haden and Frank White.
Casket bearers were Eric, Kevin and Wade Magnus, Scott Walker, Dwight Myers and Mike Kirchner.
A memorial has been established with Cedar Vale Emergency Medical Service.
