CEDAR VALE \emdash Melba "Maxine" Magnus, 84, of Cedar Vale, passed away Nov. 6, 2011, at the Sedan City Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Cedar Vale. Visitation will be Tuesday at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale from 4 to 7 p.m. Family will greet friends from 6 to 7.

Melba "Maxine" Magnus

Melba 'Maxine' Magnus, was born June 27, 1927 to John Harlan and Annie (Cochran) Duncan. She was the 8th of 9 children. She was raised and educated in the Cedar Vale area and graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1946 and in May of 2011, celebrated her 65th class reunion.

She married Earl Eugene Magnus on May 29, 1947 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

She began working for Aging Projects/Friendship Meals in 1981 and retired as the manager of the Cedar Vale Friendship Meals in 2007. She also worked for Sedan Floral for several years as a flower consultant.

Maxine was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher at he church for almost 25 years. She is the president of the Kemp Barnes American Legion Auxiliary Unit #201 in Cedar Vale. She was also active in the past as a 4H leader for the Cedar Vale Go-Getters 4-H Club, a Girl Scout Leader and was also a past member of "Social Hour" and "The Friendship Club" She was also Grand Marshall of the 2007 Cedar Vale Labor Day Parade.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, in June 1997, her parents and siblings John Wesley Duncan, Cecil Duncan, Bertha Bohannon, Gladys Krout, Lucille Swarts, Myrtle Harp, Daisy Dyke and Patsy Ellen Bailey.

Children; Ragena Dobney, Randy & Eldonna Magnus and Marcia Magnus: 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren survive her.
She is also survived by 3 special in-laws; Robert Bailey, Clyde Hatcher and Coral Ann Magnus and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday, November 9, 2011, 10:30am, at the First Baptist Church in Cedar Vale. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 4pm to 7pm at Wheelers Funeral Home in Cedar Vale. Family will greet friends from 6pm to 7pm. Memorials are to the First Baptist Church of Cedar Vale and Friendship Meals.
