Source: Penny Knapp - Willie was killed in action in WWII. He wrote a letter to his sister Bertha from a military hospital on 3 Jun 1944 telling her he had been wounded in his left shoulder, but it wasn't serious. By the time she found out about the wound, he had been sent back to the front and was killed. She wrote him a letter dated 11 Aug 1944 asking how serious his wound was since the family had just gotten work of it. The letter was returned with deceased stamped on the front of the envelope. He had been killed 20 Jul 1943. 329
