In doing my research on this individual several years ago, I encountered some other people who didn't have death information on Mary Ellen. I searched extensively myself and could not come up with anything. In looking at the Illinois Death Index for the umpteenth time, I decided that Helen Spiller had to be my girl. I went to the FHC in SLC and looked up her death certificate on microfilm and sure enough, it was my Mary Ellen Greathouse."
Birth and marriage information do not seem to be difficult to obtain for Mary Ellen, but I could find no one who had her death information. I'm wanting to help anyone who is looking for this info by supplying it to you.
I have a copy of the death certificate taken from microfilm #1,684,332. The info is transcribed as follows:

Mary Ellen's first husband, James A. Smith, died in 1909. Mary married a Perrino/Perrine Spiller sometime between 1910 and 1920. I still need a certificate for this marriage. I cannot find death info on Perrino either. If it's possible to request a search for this information as well as photos of the tombstones through Greathouse Point, I'd like to do so. I'm wondering if Mary and Perrino are buried next to each other. There are most likely some Greathouse descendants in S. Illinois who would also like this info for themselves.
I don't know why Mary's name appears as Helen on the certificate. Either the recorder did not understand James correctly when he gave the information, or she really did have the nickname of Helen. She also had the nickname Ellen, which is what appears on more than one census record. I chuckle at the name "Salamander" which James gave for his grandmother, Sarah Ann. "
