After the death of his mother, Mary Ellen, in 1877, and the Greathouse family's subsequent migration to Kansas, Missouri, and back to Illinois in 1878, Robert Henry was sent to Calhoun Co, IL to live with his grandfather Low's good friend Dr. Kendall on Sept 22, 1878. By 1850, he was back living on his grandfather's farm and worked there until at least 1886.
