Source: John D. Greathouse "When John David was born Isaac was eighty years, eight months and 29 days of age. His young wife, Bycie was a month short of thirty. Less than two years later Isaac became ill and passed from this life. He left her with five children to care for, the youngest being but a baby of twenty one months old.
Isaac and Sabina lived for the first four years in Union County, KY and in about 1882 moved to Webster Co., KY. In 1884 moved to Scott Co., KY. They were in Henry Co., KY when the eleventh child, Bryan Hill was born in 1896.
In the early 1870's Isaac became a Primitive Baptist Preacher but since he did not receive pay, he earned his living as a farmer.
By 1906 at the age of fifty four, Isaac's healt had failed to the point that he was practically an invalid. He received information in the mail that land was available in New Mexico for homesteading. His friend Henry Stinnett, who lived in Portales, told him that if he came toNew Mexico, to preach for them, he would get well. Isaac and several members of his family went and homesteaded about 23 miles west of Portales. By 1920 the "Greathouse Ranch" had over 20,000 acres.
