bullet  Notes:

We used to show his Father as John abt 1730 Germantown Pa-1796 Germantown, PA. We have removed this, as we have no evidence to support it, and we have strong evidence Samuel B. Greathouse Sr. was born in MD.

Mary Greathouse states that Samuel B. Greathouse's parents were probably William and Mary Ann Greathouse, a plausible conclusion.

This support comes from Sandy (Sandra L) Faler, From US. Census 1880 -Kansas Mortality Record 5 EN Dist #187, Wilson County,Verdigris Township -F.M. Robertson Enumerator--line 3-
47 Warren (Cash) Greathouse, age 63, male white--born in Kentucky. Father born in Maryland, Mother born in Pennsyvlania.

Sandy Faler quotes notes made by Edith Greathouse in listing the additions made to this family record as submitted by her.

Mrs. Mary Greathouse notes:
Samuel Greathouse obtained a land grant in Warren County on 28 Aug 1799 consisting of 200 acres of land. It states "Certificate #2021 granted by commissioners in 1798 agreeably to an act for encouraging granting relief to soldiers..... " Samuel is on Warren County tax lists beginning in 1799, along with these Greathouses: John, John Sr., Elizabeth, and Harmon.

• Samuel Brown Greathouse Sr. [186] was a member of The Green River Association , Warren County, Kentucky
Articles of Faith of the Green River Association
Adopted at her constitution at the Sinking Creek Meeting House,
Warren County, Ky., June 1800
1. We believe in one only True and Living God, and that there are a trinity of persons in the God Head, the Father, Son., and Holy Ghost, and yet that there are not three Gods, but one God.
2. We believe that the scripture of the Old and New Testaments are the word of God, and the only rule of faith and practice.
3. We believe in the fall of Adam, and the imputation of his sin to his posterity, the corruption of human nature, and the impotency of man to recover himself by his own free will ability. 4. We believe that sinners are justified in the sight of God only by the righteousness of Christ imputed to them, and that good works are the fruit of faith, and follow after justification, and only justify us in the sight of men and angels, and are evidences of our gracious state.
5. We believe that the saints shall persevere in Grace, and that not one of them shall finally be lost.
6. We believe that there will be a resurrection of the dead and a general or universal judgment, and that the happiness of the righteous and the punishment of the wicked will be eternal.
Respecting the Gospel order -
7. We believe that the visible Church of Christ is a congregation of faithful persons, who have obtained fellowship with each other and have given themselves up to the Lord and one another, having agreed to keep up a Godly discipline according to the rules of the Gospel.
8. We believe that Jesus Christ is the great Head of the Church, and that the government thereof is with the body.
9. We believe that water baptism and the Lords Supper are ordinances of the Lord, and to be continued by his church til His second corning.
10. We believe that true believers are the only subject of baptism, and that dipping is the only mode.
11. We believe that none but regularly baptized church members have a right to commune at the Lords Table.
(Copied from the 1800 minutes of the Green River Association at the Library of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. These 11 Articles of Faith also appear in the records of three of the oldest churches in South-Central Kentucky: Mill Creek Baptist Church, Monroe County; Clear Fork Baptist Church, Clinton County; Casey's Fork Baptist Church, Cumberland County.)

• He worked as a minister in , Warren County, Kentucky.
A History of Kentucky Baptists from 1769 to 1885, Including More Than 800 Biographical Sketches, by J. H. Spencer. Printed 1886. pp 114-115 (Warren Co.)
"Samuel Greathouse was, for a number of years, one of the most active and useful preachers in Green River Association. He was of German extraction, and a native of Maryland. He emigrated to northern Kentucky, while a young man, and, after marrying his cousin, Susan Greathouse, became one of the early settlers of Warren County. Here he became alarmed about the safety of his soul, by the following circumstance: At a house-raising, he was carrying up one of the corners of the building, when a fork, with which the men on the ground pushed up the logs, split open and allowed the log to roll back, by which two men were instantly killed. 'What would have become of my soul, if I had been one of those men?' soliloquized Mr. Greathouse.
This was not long after the beginning of the present century. Mr. Greahouse was soon afterwards baptized, probably by John Hightower, and entered into the Constitution of Bays Fork Church, located about eigfht miles east of Bowling Green. He was soon afterwards set apart to the ministry, and called to the care of the new organization. The church was prosperous under his ministry, and he became very popular, as a preacher.
About 1820, he was invited to preach, one Sunday in the month, to Bethel Church, in Allen county, while Zechariah Emerson occupied its pulpit another Sabbath. Mr. Greathouse was of a gealous and stubborn temper, and soon began to manifest a dislike for his colaborator, and to circulate reports about him that could not be substantiated. This led to an investigation, and Mr. Greathouse was convicted of slandering his brother. A majority of Bays Fork Church adhered to him, which led to a division of that organization. The minority was constituted, under the name of Rocky Spring Church, and was sustained by the Association. This church was very prosperous for many years, under the pastoral care of Younger Witherspoon, a son-in-law of Mr. Greathouse. Bays Fork Church was dropped from the Association.
...
Mr. Greathouse left a respectable family, of whom his youngest son, Thomas Greathouse, became a Baptist preacher, of small gifts, and a teacher and composer of vocal music."
