Notes
Burial Notes:
Source: Penny Knapp - Inscription: Hiram Gratehouse, born 1796, died 1868. Blessed are the dead which died in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them. Rev. 14:13. The above is the inscription from the only stone on the hillside, however, there are two unmarked graves, possibly their chidlren. The graves are on a high knoll about one fourth of a mile east of the gravel road and about the middle of section 35 of Indian Prairie Township on land owned by William and Phyllis Watson. In the winter when the leaves are all off the trees, the one stone can be seen from the road, if you are looking for it. Otherwise you could drive down the road and neve notice it as it is a distance from the road.General:
Source: Vivian Taylor - Different census records vary slightly on Hiram's age, but he must have been born between 1796 and 1798. In 1796 and 1797 the parents William and Mary Ann were in Clark County, KY. The 1798 tax record is missing. In 1799 William was in Clark and Jessamine County (which was created in 1799). I think that Hiram was born in Clark County but grew up in or near Bowling Green, Warren County, where William moved after 1802. I find it interesting that the father, William, was last in the tax list in 1819 and not in the 1820 census, and that Hiram left Bowling Green and married Lydia Ann up in Union County, KY, in November 1819. Maybe Hiram didn't leave home until his father had died.Marriage Notes (Lydia Ann Greathouse)
